Gillie and Marc Schattner who work together to craft art as one. This piece – called The Travelers Have Arrived is currently part of the
Sculpture by the Sea Exhibition in Bondi, Australia. The rugged Australian coastline certainly makes a stunning backdrop for art.
The couple are known for applying the, at first sight, somewhat bizarre imagery of the animal-human hybrid to their work. I was immediately drawn by this – it leaves so much to the imagination I had a backstory for the three figures, which are made from bronze painted fiberglass, created almost immediately.
The description by the artists goes like this: The work is an attempt to transform ordinary matter into something extraordinary. We believe in a visual narrative that makes people smile. Well, if that’s the criteria it works for me. How is it for you?
