Diving Off Mostar's Sloping Bridge
Mostar’s famous bridge was destroyed by the Croatian Defense Council during the Bosnian War of the 1990s. The bridge had stood for over 400 years and had withstood many conflicts – until this one.
With the demise of the bridge another tradition was to die – that of the young men of the Bosnian Herzegovinian city diving off its side in to the Neretva River. It had been a rite of passage for the town's young for as many years as the bridge had stood.
Fortunately the bridge was rebuilt and the tradition could continue. This short, by DGA Productions shows the diving competition (it’s only for the bravehearted) but also looks back with some feeling to those young men who lost their lives in 1993.
