A Mine of Minerals
Kuriositas always uses great quality Creative Commons pictures in the posts on the website (and when not, that means we have asked the photographer really nicely and they have given us permission to use). So, it was great to see, over at Wikimedia Commons, that they have received a huge donation of images of minerals.
Robert Lavinsky, PhD, has donated almost thirty thousand images of minerals - from his own website irocks.com. However, Wikimedia do need some help - given the sheer volume - to translate descriptions of the pictures and upload them to Wikimedia Commons. The job is made even greater because Dr Lavinsky had also offered his archive - and that is another twenty thousand all in all!
